CASS project "TACTICS" represented at CSW68

Mari Puniste, project manager for the international project TACTICS led by University of Tartu, represented the project at the 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), which took place in New York from March 11th to 22nd, 2024.

CSW is the UN’s largest annual gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment, bringing together a diverse array of stakeholders from around the globe. This year, the stakeholders were looking to address the theme of "Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective."

Mari engaged in discussions at various events, including:

  • UN Women CSW68 official Opening Session
  • Exploring solutions to break the poverty trap for single parents
  • Financing Feminist Futures Symposium at the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice
  • Examining the role of equality bodies during crises
  • Promoting gender-transformative digital skills education
  • Addressing men's involvement in challenging social norms for gender justice
  • Exploring the intersection of men, masculinity, and preventing gender-based violence
  • Power Up Reception at the META NY Office
  • Highlighting women's empowerment and leadership in customary and informal justice systems
  • Advocating for improved mental health support for women
  • Understanding the impact of technology-facilitated gender-based violence
  • Strategies for breaking the cycle of violence through economic empowerment

The dense program of CSW68, supplemented by side and parallel events, provided a rich platform for dialogue and collaboration. Discussions ranged from policy solutions to grassroots initiatives, reflecting the multifaceted approach needed to advance gender equality comprehensively.

Mari's participation underscored the importance of intersectional approaches in addressing gender inequality, particularly in the context of domestic violence. As a project manager for TACTICS, her insights from CSW68 will contribute to enhancing responses to domestic violence by law enforcement authorities.

CSW68 served as a reminder of the collective commitment to achieving gender equality and women's empowerment globally. By fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, the event reaffirmed the collective determination to accelerate progress towards a more inclusive and equitable world for all.
